The Academic Pharmacy Group is a special interest group of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society and is open to pharmacists and non-pharmacists alike.

The group's one-day membership meetings, which cover topics as diverse as drug misuse, the difficulties faced by students in making calculations and the teaching of pharmacy law and ethics, offer a forum for debate, discussion and the dissemination of information. Locations vary from meeting to meeting, but the venue is usually either a school of pharmacy or the Society's headquarters.

The APG Easter conference offers similar opportunities. The residential nature of this two- or three-day meeting also provides a good opportunity for networking. The conference is held on a biennial basis. Recent locations have included Belfast, Liverpool, Brighton and Glasgow.

Membership

Two categories of membership are offered: full and associate. Full membership is available to members of the academic staffs of UK schools of pharmacy which offer a degree programme accredited for RPSGB registration. Associate membership is open to those in the UK and overseas with an interest in pharmacy and education.

Voting rights and the opportunity to stand for election to the APG Committee are limited to full members. Discounted attendance fees for day meetings and conferences are offered to full members.

How to become a member of the Academic Pharmacy Group

An application form for full or associate membership is available here as a pdf file. Side A of the form is for full membership, side B for associate membership.

Please note that only members of the academic staff of schools of pharmacy which run an MPharm programme leading to registration with the RPSGB are eligible for full membership. As a further criterion for full membership, you should also be able to give a positive answer to one or both of these questions:
Is your academic position funded by a higher education funding council (DEL, HEFCE, HEFCW, SHEFC)?
Are you actively involved in curriculum design to the extent of 50 days per year?

If you do not meet one of the above criteria, we would be pleased to receive your application for associate membership.
