Article 54 of the Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians Order 2007 (as amended) gives the Disciplinary Committee and the Health Committee, in serious cases, the power to make an interim order.

An interim order may consist of an order for conditions to be placed on a practitioner’s registration, or an order for interim suspension of the practitioner’s name from the register.
Under Article 54 of the Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians Order, there are three grounds on which an interim order may be imposed. These are that the order must be necessary for the protection of members of the public; otherwise in the public interest; or in the interests of the practitioner.
There is no notice period stipulated in the Order. The procedure for interim orders is set out in Rules 21 and 39 of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain (Fitness to Practise and Disqualification etc) Rules 2007 (as amended). The Rules will require the Society to give such notice as is reasonable in the circumstances. At the interim order hearing, practitioners will be entitled to attend, to be represented, and to call and examine witnesses.
Typically, interim orders may be made for a longstop of up to 18 months with a cycle of reviews within the first 6 months, and specified periods of 3 months thereafter. The Council may apply to the High Court to extend an order after the expiry of the 18 month period. The Court may grant an extension for a further period of 12 months.
The practitioner may make an application to the High Court (technically not an appeal, but an application under Part 54 of the Civil Procedure Rules) to terminate a suspension, revoke or vary conditions or substitute any period of time specified in the original order.
The Society stresses that interim orders are made pending the outcome of an investigation or a full hearing into allegations that have been made against a registrant listed in this section. The Society's Fitness to Practise Committees have not yet finally determined the allegations against these registrants and no findings have been made against them in relation to their fitness to practise.
