Consultation on proposed amendments to the Society's Royal Charter

The profession and other stakeholders have been consulted on proposed changes to the Society’s Royal Charter during a 12-week consultation period which ended on 7 May 2009. 

Royal Charter vote

The findings of the consultation were presented to the Council in June 2009, and a ballot of the membership has taken place to seek approval via Special Resolution for the changes to the Charter. 

Background information

The Council of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain agreed on 3 February 2009 that the new Professional Leadership Body for pharmacy should be a chartered body and that the Society’s Royal Charter should be amended to enable its successful transition in 2010. With the adoption of the TransCom prospectus as the blueprint for the new body, the amended Charter, together with the legislation to establish the General Pharmaceutical Council, will allow the separation of the regulatory and professional functions of the Society.
