RPS e-PIC: Electronic Pharmacy Information Coverage

General information

RPS e-PIC comprises a suite of five databases, covering journals, new products, discontinued products, pharmaceutics and pharmacy history. The abstracts on RPS e-PIC are written by information pharmacists.

The database is available in CD-ROM format or via the internet.

Core database

Covers the principal pharmacy and medical journals in the UK, with over 70,000 references added since its inception in 1992. RPS e-PIC covers all aspects of pharmacy, its practice and current research, particularly relating to the United Kingdom.The subject coverage includes drugs and therapeutics, pharmacy its practice and management (particularly hospital and community), pharmacy ethics and professionalism, inter-professional relationships, Society matters and its pronouncements. The Pharmaceutical Journal is covered in detail.

New products

Contains information on new medicinal products which have been marketed since 1992, including details of active ingredients, dosage forms and strengths, indications and manufacturer along with a full bibliographic reference and keywords.

Discontinued products

Contains information on medicinal products which have been reported as discontinued since 1992, including the date of withdrawal and the reasons for this, where given, along with a full bibliographic reference.

Pharmaceutics

Covers articles on pharmaceutics, pharmaceutical technology and related topics abstracted since 1996 and includes information on specialist subjects such as formulation, stability, processing and packaging of medicinal products.

Pharmacy history

A database introduced in 2001 covering over 1,400 articles on the history of professional practice by pharmacists and apothecaries as well as the history of pharmacy premises and equipment, therapeutic theory and materia medica.

RPS e-PIC references

Reference lists are available for practising pharmacists on some of the subject areas that the information pharmacists are frequently asked about.
